Worship in daily life

"Every single thing we do is called to be an act of worship." - Sid Hielema This quote is the inspiration for this blog as I have reflected on it and really thought deeply on what exactly this means to me and my relationship with both God and the people around me. This quote does hold a lot of weight whether or not we as people accept that and realize it. What made me realize this was the recent media fast I had for three days and being removed from most of the technology I use to fill my day to day life. I had the realization that in a sense these devices and such controlled me and pulled me away from the things that matter rather than helping me get closer to what I should be focusing on like I try telling myself they do. In reality, my phone is more there for a distraction when I need it rather than just communicating with my friends and family. Once that was gone, I felt like I had nothing to do and honestly felt empty. From that point on I knew I had to do something abo...

Life of a college kid

College is a weird, unique and at the same time constraining and liberating place to be for me. Its not the environment I thought it was, but at the same time its a good thing yet a bad thing. It isn't what I am comfortable with, but in some ways that can be a good thing. Its getting me ready for the real world in the sense that I won't always be comfortable where I am, but it isn't realistic at the same time because I am not around my friends and family that I hold dear to my heart. As you can tell college, more so living at college is a conflicting ideal of mine and I struggle with it very much and find it hard to know what is for me and what isn't. I love this place, but I love and miss my home too. I guess my question is what should I do? Should I let my feelings lead me? Is God going to show me the way or is he letting me make my own decision? I do not know exactly what he wants for me as of right now, but I do have a strong idea of what it is and where he wants me...

What are we worshiping?

What do you worship? Not only in the religious sense, but also in your daily life? It is a weird question to ask, but if you really think about it hard enough you'll find that you worship things you don't even intend to. What I mean by worship is in the sense of that either controlling your life or being an everyday part of it at almost every second and basically is just an addiction or bad habit you cannot get rid of or stop. This obviously will differ from person to person and will change as we age and go through life because our tastes change and our outlook on the world along with what surrounds us. I know, for most of this generation at least, it is our mobile devices. Whether it be cell phones, tablets, mobile gaming hardware, virtual reality headsets and whatever else they're inventing now a days. I see a lot of people also being in love with the idea of having wealth, but I mean who wouldn't be? I think most of us can agree we would want to live comfortably with...

My Journey

To understand my journey you really have to dig deep and go further back to my childhood, how I grew up, how I was brought up and the environment I was in. Keep in mind this is a very condensed version and all of this is coming off the top of my head and is all from what I remember without putting too much time into it. I grew up in a broken home, my dad cheated on his girlfriend, who he had two kids with before me, and when he found out my mom was pregnant he skipped out. He was also put in jail shortly after because of gang related business among the TRG, or Tiny Rascal Gang a very prominent one in California. While he was in jail my mom struggled to move on and moved on to drugs and alcohol, hitting it even harder than she did before  she was pregnant with me. My step dad did try to clean her up and was there by her side through it all, he didn't want the first grandson of the family to be born messed up. He succeeded to an extent, but after I was born my mom left the hospital a...
